What is an AI scribe?

An AI scribe is software that listens to a conversation and produces the written record it would otherwise fall to a person to write: a transcript, a structured summary, and the commitments that came out of it. The term comes from medicine, where a human scribe followed a clinician and wrote the note so the clinician could keep looking at the patient. An AI scribe does the same job in software, and the phrase has since spread to law, sales, consulting and general meetings.

Accurate enough to be a working draft, not accurate enough to be filed unread. Accents, crosstalk, jargon and poor audio all degrade it. The right question is not the accuracy percentage but whether you can trace any sentence back to the moment it was said.
Does an AI scribe replace a human scribe or a court reporter?
No. A court reporter produces a certified record with legal standing. An AI scribe produces a working document. Where a certified record is required, you still need the certified record.
