Otter.ai alternatives
People leave Otter for four different reasons, and they need four different products. If you want the call to land in your CRM, Fireflies adds conversation intelligence and CRM sync. If you want a summary the moment the call ends, Fathom is built around exactly that, and Notta also takes audio files you already have. If you do not want a bot visibly joining the call, Granola listens to your computer’s own audio instead. And if the meetings that matter never happen on a call at all, none of those help — every one of them needs a Zoom, Teams or Meet session to attach to, which is the gap a recording device fills.
Start with why you are leaving
01 / You need the call in your CRM
Otter is strongest as a transcript. If what you actually need is the call turned into pipeline — who said what about budget, the next step logged against the deal — Fireflies adds conversation intelligence and CRM sync on top of transcription, and joins the call as a named participant to do it.
02 / You want the summary, not the transcript
A live transcript is useful while you are in the call and less useful afterwards. Fathom is built around instant summaries of recorded calls, with very little setup. If the recordings already exist as files, Notta transcribes uploads as well as web meetings.
03 / You do not want a bot in the call
Otter and Fireflies join as a visible participant, which some clients read as a third party being added to a private conversation. Granola takes your computer’s own audio and never appears in the participant list, and it fills in around the shorthand you type rather than replacing it.
04 / The meeting was never on a call
This is the one no software alternative solves. Otter, Fireflies, Fathom, Notta and Granola all need a virtual meeting to attach to. The client across the desk, the site visit, the corridor conversation after the formal session — there is no link for a bot to join. A recording device is the only thing in this list that covers those, and that is the category Scriben is in.
05 / You want the follow-up done, not just written
Every tool above ends at a transcript or a summary. Scriben carries on: it keeps memory across conversations, and prepares the email, calendar hold or CRM update for you to approve. It does not join calls, so if your week is all Zoom it is the wrong tool — but for the conversations in rooms, that is the difference.
Where these facts come from
Competitor products change. Every fact here is quoted from the vendor’s own published pages on the date given — check theirs before you decide anything on ours.
Otter features checked on 15 September 2026 on otter.ai: a notetaker that joins Zoom, Teams and Meet, a live transcript you can read during the call, and summaries afterwards. Products change — check theirs before you decide.
Fireflies features checked on 15 September 2026 on fireflies.ai: a notetaker that joins the call as a named participant, transcription, conversation intelligence and CRM sync. Products change — check theirs before you decide.
Fathom features checked on 15 September 2026 on fathom.video: a notetaker that joins the call, with recordings and instant summaries. Products change — check theirs before you decide.
Notta features checked on 15 September 2026 on notta.ai: transcription of web meetings and of audio files you upload. Products change — check theirs before you decide.
Granola features checked on 14 September 2026 on granola.ai: it captures the computer’s own audio with no bot in the call, fills in around the notes you type, and offers MCP and API access. Products change — check theirs before you decide.
Otter, Fireflies, Fathom, Notta and Granola each require a virtual meeting or a running app to capture from — checked on 15 September 2026 against each vendor’s own product pages and documentation. All five offer mobile apps that can record in person from a phone; none captures a conversation with no session and no app running. If that changes, this page is wrong and we would like to be told.
Questions
What is the best Otter.ai alternative?
There is no single one, because people leave Otter for different reasons. For CRM sync and conversation intelligence, Fireflies. For a summary the moment the call ends, Fathom. For no visible bot in the call, Granola. For meetings that happen in a room rather than on a call, a recording device such as Scriben — no software tool in this category captures those at all.
Which Otter alternative works with audio files?
Notta transcribes audio files you upload as well as web meetings, which makes it the natural choice if the recordings already exist. The others in this group are built around joining or listening to a live call.
Which Otter alternative does not join the call as a bot?
Granola. It listens to your computer’s own audio and never appears in the participant list, so the other people on the call do not see a notetaker arrive. You still tell them you are taking notes — the difference is that it is your notes, not a guest.
Can Otter.ai record in-person meetings?
Otter has a mobile app that can record from a phone, so technically yes — you are holding a phone out on the table. What it cannot do is capture without something being run and pointed at the conversation. That is the difference this page is about, rather than a claim that it is impossible.
Is Scriben an Otter alternative?
Only for in-person conversations. Otter is built for virtual meetings and is good at them; Scriben is a pen that records rooms and does not join calls at all. Plenty of people run both, and if all your meetings are on Zoom then Otter is the right tool and this page should not talk you out of it.
We make a competing product, so read this accordingly — and note that five of the six recommendations below are not ours. Every feature is described from the vendor’s own pages with the date we checked it. Scriben is recording people know about. You say what the pen is and what it does, they agree, and then it stays out of the way for the rest of the conversation — that second half is the product, and it only works after the first. Recording law varies by jurisdiction and by profession: see recording people lawfully before you start.
